Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Collaborates for Impactful Sexual Assault Awareness Month Initiative 2024

[May 3, 2024] — Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., in collaboration with prominent sororities, including Corazones Unidos Siempre/Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Incorporated, Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc., Kappa Delta Chi, Sigma Lambda Gamma, and Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Incorporada, has successfully concluded a month-long series of events and initiatives during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) 2024. Themed “Voces Unidas Cultivating Community” (United Voices Cultivating Community), the campaign has set a benchmark in raising awareness and fostering community resilience against sexual assault, particularly within Latinx communities.

Throughout April, the partnering organizations engaged communities across the nation in a comprehensive slate of programming designed to educate, empower, and connect individuals. The initiative aimed to break the silence around sexual violence in Latinx communities, where such discussions are often considered taboo.

Highlights of SAAM 2024:

  • Educational Workshops: A series of interactive workshops addressing critical topics such as establishing healthy relationships, supporting survivors, understanding the cultural implications of sexual assault, and utilizing technology for healing and justice.
  • Shelf Care – Where Books and Wellness Meet: Participants joined a month-long book club to discuss Chanel Miller’s Know My Name, enhancing their understanding and empathy for survivors’ experiences.
  • Social Awareness Campaigns: High-impact awareness days, including Wear Teal Day and Denim Day, sparked online and community participation, spreading awareness through visual solidarity.

“The success of this initiative is measured by the conversations it started and the safe spaces it fostered,” said Cristina Naranjo-Salazar, National President of Lambda Theta Alpha. “Our collective efforts have empowered individuals to contribute to safer, more supportive environments, crucial for preventing and addressing sexual violence.”

Lambda Theta Alpha and its partners are committed to continuing these efforts beyond SAAM, aiming to maintain momentum in educating and empowering communities year-round.
