“Our sisterhood is not a destination, but a journey.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

As a member of our sorority, your daughter is joining a sisterhood rooted in its principles of unity, love and respect and dedicated to empowering her to excel academically and socially within her community. Our sisterhood is a lifelong commitment with lifetime rewards that include personal and professional development, scholarly excellence and a vast network of continued support that will empower her through her journey.

Since our founding in 1975 at Kean University in New Jersey, the sorority has welcomed more than 5,000 members and expanded to over 160 undergraduate and alumnae chapters, spanning across 23 states and Puerto Rico. At this size, we can nearly guarantee that no matter where your daughter travels to, she will have an instant connection with a sister nearby. As part of the collegiate experience, our members participate in a plethora of charitable, social, political and educational programs for their self-development. In turn, we see that our members use the knowledge gained to better strengthen their communities.

To join Lambda Theta Alpha, your daughter must be enrolled in a university for credit and maintain a certain grade point average. Founded as an academic sorority, educational success for all our members is integral to their development and active membership. However, with benefits of membership come responsibilities, and your daughter will be required to meet certain obligations of membership at the national and local levels, such as upholding the principles of the sorority, paying dues and volunteering in her community.

After graduation, your daughter will have created lifelong friendships and everlasting memories, but her sorority experience won’t be over. We have alumnae chapters nationwide that offer networking opportunities, friendship and service events in her community, whether at home or in a new city. We believe that our sisterhood is a lifetime commitment and call on our members to uphold its value.

We also have a responsibility to sisterhood, and to this end, we have a zero-tolerance hazing policy. Simply put, Lambda Theta Alpha does not haze. We support the dignity and integrity of every member in accordance with our principles and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender expression, marital status, disability or other characteristics protected by state or federal law.

We invite you to learn more about Lambda Theta Alpha’s history. If you have any questions or would like to share your daughter’s experience with us, please contact us at undergraduates@lambdalady.org.
