Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Concludes Historic 50th Anniversary Celebration Weekend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW JERSEY – March 28, 2025 – Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., the first Latin sorority in the nation, proudly celebrated its 50th Anniversary with an extraordinary weekend of events, bringing together sisters from across the country to honor five decades of history, empowerment, and community impact. From March 21-23, 2025, members gathered for a series of meaningful experiences that paid tribute to the sorority’s rich legacy while looking ahead to a future of continued excellence.

The celebratory weekend kicked off on Friday, March 21, with a Golden Happy Hour at the Hilton East Brunswick. Laughter, reconnections, and shared memories set the stage for a weekend of reflection.

On Saturday, March 22, sisters and members returned to Kean University, the birthplace of Lambda Theta Alpha and the Latino Greek movement, for a special campus tour—a meaningful journey through the very grounds where our visionary Founding Mothers laid the foundation of our sisterhood in 1975.

That evening, the highly anticipated 50th Anniversary Banquet at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick brought together Founding Mothers, the First Line, national leadership, and members from every generation across the nation for a night of reflection, recognition, and celebration. During the program, the Founding Mothers and First Line were honored with the exclusive 50th Anniversary pin, and Carlos Rodriguez, Vice President of Administration at Kean University, presented the sorority with a proclamation recognizing its legacy and impact.

The night also highlighted Lambda Theta Alpha’s unwavering commitment to philanthropy and its homegrown foundation. The Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation was awarded nearly $4,000 for funds raised year-to-date on behalf of the sorority. In a moment of inspiration, Sabrina-Kahokulani Sergeant, Vice President of External Affairs, issued a powerful call to action, challenging members to help reach the goal of raising $50,000 this sorority year—a tribute to 50 Years of LTA and a commitment to advancing education, humanitarian relief, and scholarships. This call to action sparked an incredible response, leading to an additional $6,250 raised during the celebratory weekend alone.

The formal banquet was a true testament to Lambda Theta Alpha’s profound impact in fostering academic excellence, political education, and philanthropic efforts, reinforcing its mission to empower women and uplift communities nationwide.

“This milestone was more than a celebration—it was a testament to the power of unity, resilience, and the unwavering commitment of our members to uplift one another and our communities,” said Rosie Diaz, National President of Lambda Theta Alpha. “As we honor our past, we also look forward to the future, knowing that our impact will continue for generations to come.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday, March 23, with a heartfelt Brunch at the Hilton East Brunswick offering a final opportunity for attendees to celebrate, reflect, and embrace the strength of sisterhood before departing.

As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebratory Weekend, Lambda Theta Alpha proudly spotlighted and supported member-owned businesses, reinforcing our commitment to uplifting and empowering our own. The weekend featured incredible contributions from sister entrepreneurs, including a live performance by College Ave Band, stunning event photography by Infinite Love Photography, beautifully curated décor by Party in a Box, and an interactive experience provided by Elevated Photo Booths. These member-owned businesses played an integral role in bringing the weekend’s vision to life, making each event even more memorable while showcasing the talent and dedication within our sisterhood.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration not only highlighted the sorority’s enduring mission but also reinforced its role as a trailblazer in academic achievement, social activism, and community engagement. As Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. embarks on its next chapter, its members remain dedicated to upholding the values that have shaped the organization for the past 50 years and will continue to do so for decades to come.
