Union, New Jersey – Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. proudly announces a historic milestone in its journey of sisterhood, service, and empowerment. With great joy and gratitude, the organization commemorates reaching 10,000 dedicated members.
Founded on December 1, 1975, at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, Lambda Theta Alpha emerged as the first Latina sorority in the nation. Since its inception, the sorority has remained committed to empowering women, fostering leadership, and advocating for cultural awareness and social justice. Over the past four decades, Lambda Theta Alpha has forged a path of excellence, leaving an enduring mark on communities nationwide. The sorority has garnered recognition as a beacon of empowerment for women of all backgrounds through its dedication to academic excellence, community service, and cultural enrichment.
As we celebrate this monumental achievement, Lambda Theta Alpha reaffirms its commitment to its founding principles and core values. With a membership that reflects the diversity and richness of our communities, the sorority continues to cultivate leaders who drive positive change. Founding Mother Arlene Fernandez Marrero said, “Alone we are strong; together, we are unstoppable. Lambda Theta Alpha was founded at Kean University in 1975 as the first Latina sorority in the nation. The Sorority strives to develop strong leaders that produce and engage in political, social and cultural activities. Based on the principles of Unity, Love and Respect, the Sorority was established for the unification of women through charitable and educational programs. Although founded as Latin by tradition, the Sorority is inclusive to all women regardless of race, color, creed, sexual identity, gender expression, or religious beliefs.
