Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation Launches with Hurricane Harvey Relief Campaign

Thursday, August 31, 2017 – Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation Launches with Hurricane Harvey Relief Campaign

WASHINGTON – Today, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. announced the official launch of the Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation. Founded in 2015 after discussions with the sorority’s Board of Directors and Founding Mothers, the Foundation aims to advance our communities by providing funding for educational programming, scholarship and humanitarian relief.

The Foundation, which is a separate entity from the sorority, was created as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to respond to the growing need for further financial support of the sorority’s programs and the broader community. Through the Foundation, sorority members, corporations and individual donors can contribute tax-deductible donations that in turn may be used to fund charitable and educational initiatives.

The establishment and incorporation of the foundation was made possible with the assistance of the sorority’s legal counsel, Mee Mee Hoge & Epperson and accounting firm, Sciarabba Walker & Co. “It has been an amazing opportunity to be able to collaborate with our partners to reignite an organization that will provide an avenue for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. and the greater community to come together to support those seeking relief, scholarship or leadership development,” said Merlix Reynolds, a founding director of the Foundation and member of Lambda Theta Alpha.

Fulfilling one of its core pillars to provide humanitarian relief, the Foundation will collect monetary donations to support victims of Hurricane Harvey. Through generous, tax-deductible contributions, the Foundation will address immediate needs, such as food, hygiene products and shelter. Additionally, the sorority’s National Philanthropy Committee will continue to provide resources and explore long-term support opportunities.

“We look forward to seeing the lasting impact that the Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation will have on our sorority and our communities,” said Laurie Ochoa, the sorority’s national president. “The Board of Directors has collectively pledged personal donations to kickstart relief efforts, and we know our sisters nationwide will rise to the occasion to show unity with our sisters in Texas and the many displaced by Hurricane Harvey.”

The partnership between the sorority and its foundation will continue to ensure its mission to advance communities for years to come. For more information or to make a tax-deductible donation, please visit www.ltafoundation.org/humanitarian-relief.
